I went to Azeroth at 62 on my Shaman. I did everything I could in Azeroth except the end game 5 mans. The 5 man group quests in Silithus are 2 mannable at 62 with TBC greens from the AH, and the XP from them has been buffed a whole lot!

Meant we cruised through Outlands and didn’t touch a 5 man after Blood Furnace (!) but were still 70 at the start of Netherstorm.

I guess these two comments just go to show that there isn’t a “right or wrong” answer. I’m still debating back and forth, but I’m thinking I’ll keep in Azeroth until 60. I have a level 65 warlock, and I gook him into the Portal at 58, and it *was* a little difficult at first–but I was so tired of old world and so excited about seeing OL for the first time I didn’t care!

I’d say stay in azeroth until 60. that’s what I’ve always done, even before the 2.3 xp boost. there’s a pretty noticable gap in mob strength between azeroth and outlands and unless you’re shopping for a whole bunch of new gear on the AH before you walk through the dark portal, you’ll be a bit underpowered at 58. doable? sure. pleasant? eh, not so much. this assumes that you’re solo’ing for most of it, though. if you’re with a friend or three, I’d say go as soon as you can

another plus to hitting hellfire pen at 60 instead of 58 is that it’s worth about 2 levels of xp if you do all the quests. that’ll put you in zangar at level 62, which is the recommended level for all those quests. going there at 60 (if you hit hellfire at 58) is going to make the marsh much more challenging.

Hi, I would say go to Outland as soon as you can I brought my Mage alt at level 57 (thanks to some Warlock for a port).

My Mage is now 68 and I have so far finished Hellfire, Zangarmarshes, most of Terrokar and most of Nagrand. I will make it to 70 with all of Shadowmoon Valley and Netherstorm open and a lot to do in Blade’s Edge. That’s more than enough for gold quests.

I find the quest & area design is much better in Outland than in the old zones you named.

That is my main reason and the ability to collect Outland Herbs/Metall/Leather.
