Big Monitor

This post is more than a year old.
World of Warcraft is an ever-changing game. While reading this post, keep the date it was written in mind—changes may have occurred since then!

Yesterday, my wife and I headed out to The Big Blue Box to buy her a computer and myself a new monitor. She ended up with the HP 8300f, a very nice desktop, and I ended up with the LG L226WTQ, a 22″ wide-screen monitor that is absolutely wonderful. Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was fire up WoW on it and see how I liked it.

Short answer: a lot. It is amazing! With about 400 extra horizontal pixels to play with, I immediately rearranged by UI a bit to add an always-present combat log, as well as moved my bars around a bit to give more empty space and more out-of-the-way tooltips. I’ve still a lot of work to do on it, but it’s looking good so far.

If anyone out there is debating on whether or not to get a wide-screen monitor, go for it. It’s the best technological investment I’ve made in a long while.
