Why I Love Druids
Posted on April 18, 2008 under Uncategorized | No CommentWorld of Warcraft is an ever-changing game. While reading this post, keep the date it was written in mind—changes may have occurred since then!
For fear of turning this blog into a druid blog (hey, she is my “main” right now, okay?) I’d like to take a minute to talk about why I love them so much.
In short, they’re awesome.
The long story is… well, longer. As most of you know, druids are one of WoW’s “true” hybrids. I’m currently specced almost full feral (my build here). After dinging 62, I was able to pick up both Omen of Clarity and Maim. I went out to test these two new abilities on the Marsh Dredgers and Lurkers while doing Saving the Sporeloks (and other related quests in that area). I frickin’ mowed through these mobs. With a combination of these new abilities and my old faithfuls, such as Improved Leader of the Pack, Mangle, and Pounce, the general attack cycle went something like: Prowl, sneak up and Pounce, Mangle, Shred, get a lucky OOC proc and Shred again, wait for the energy to come back up (about now the mob is coming out of the Pounce stun), Maim, get behind it, let the DoTs tick whle energy comes back, Shred again, mobs dead, and what little damage was done to me was easily healed from ILotP because I just critted like ten times.
Then, simply by throwing on some gear with more armor, stamina and strength, I can go tank Hellfire Ramparts. And tank Hellfire Ramparts I did. It was a little difficult with no crowd control (we had a hunter, but he didn’t trap, grr), but we made it through with minimal wipes.
Later, another group is looking for a Hellfire Ramparts group. I’m invited as DPS. A friend of mine, a level 65 mage, offers to come along too. Well, we needed a healer. I get a whisper from the group leader, “Well, how well do you heal? You’re feral right?” I’ve healed some of the upper level old-world instances, but they’ve been nerfed recently and I’ve never healed an Outland instances at all, much less as a feral druid. But we give it a shot.
And I do quite well. Even as a feral druid, we’re able to mow down the instance, with only a single death from my arcane-power-pyroblast-presence-of-mind-pyroblasting-aggro-happy-mage-friend, and only because I couldn’t get that big heal off QUITE in time (three seconds is a lot longer than it sounds when you’re healing).
So, as a feral druid, I’ve been able to do fantastic solo DPS, tank instances, and even heal instances, with just a change of clothes. Man, I really, really love druids.
