New Stuff in Kara

This post is more than a year old.
World of Warcraft is an ever-changing game. While reading this post, keep the date it was written in mind—changes may have occurred since then!

Since, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a 70-noob, and only been to Kara a couple times, last night’s raid was full of new encounters (for me) and some shiny purples.

The tanks were myself and a guildy warrior. The warrior was the main tank and I was the off tank, but as I have more HP and am, surprisingly, a tad less squishy, I ended up tanking more and more until, after and including maiden, I found myself tanking things that didn’t require an off-tank myself. We actually did fairly well, considering I wasn’t the only Kara-noob:

  • Attumen the Huntsman – One shot
  • Moroes – One shot (we’ve finally found a strategy that works well for us consistently)
  • Miaden – Three shot (funny story, see below)
  • Opera – Oz – One shot
  • Curator – One shot (new encounter for me)
  • Illhoof – One shot (new encounter for me)
  • Chess -One shot (duh)
  • Prince – Not so much

The last time I went to Kara, we had problems with Moroes until we found a start that worked for us. We used that strat first pull this time, and down he went. Yay!

I started main-tanking at Maiden. The plan was to have the warrior tank, and I was DPSing, and since I was melee I wasn’t getting a lot of heals; I backed off to bandage and right as I hit the bandage button, the call came over vent. “Tasmyn!! Tank’s down, pick ‘er up!” But it was too late. Wipe!

So, next round, we decided I would tank, since I have more of the green stuff. Everyone gets in their places, readycheck goes out, “Okay, here goes,” and before I can hit “W” to move up, she turns around and one-shots the priest. What happened? We’re still not quite sure.

So! Third time’s a charm, I get to pull this time, and she goes down. Some sort of pally loot drops, no pallies. Moving on.

Opera was simple, Oz like last time, everyone basically knew what to do. Down they go. Moving on. The group decides to go through the “back door,” I’m not sure what that is (Kara noob, remeber?) So I’m shown, and since I hit honored with the Violet Eye while fighting, I go turn in the quest out front to upgrade my tanking ring, Some more stam, armor, and defense. Sweet.

Curator! Yay, first new fight for me. What do I do? Oh, just tank. OK. I can do that. Down he goes, and the gloves (which I wanted to get my two-piece bonus) go the rogue. Congrats! A few pulls later, I open my character sheet to look at the stats on the new ring agian, only to realize that, when I did the quest, the new ring wasn’t equipped! I’ve been down 16 defense, including the curator fight. Looking back, though, I don’t think it was a problem–I actually have a bit of extra defense at the moment, so I think I was still uncrittable.

On to Illhoof. The fight is explained for me and a couple others, and we go in. The priest dies almost immediately, soulstone-rezzes, and we proceed to have an extremely clean encounter–no other deaths at all. And what should drop but Terestian’s Stranglestaff! And no druids to roll against. Sweet!

We go to chess–not much to tell there. We get to Prince, which is a fight I’ve only done once, and I was DPSing with that super-geared group I reported on some time ago. Now I’m tanking it. We wipe a few times, our warlock brings in his Shammy we wipe a couple more times, and it becomes pretty obvious that I’m not quite geared for this encounter.

So that’s where we called it. Overall, we had a lot of fun, tons of laughing and carrying on in vent. I love having a good time, especially when we can still have a very successful run and not lose focus while goofing off. I can’t wait to go again!
