My Plans for WotLK and Beyond

This post is more than a year old.
World of Warcraft is an ever-changing game. While reading this post, keep the date it was written in mind—changes may have occurred since then!

Even thought it took me a very long time, I finally have a level-capped character. Heck, I’ve done what I never thought possible and I have two! My warlock (who I don’t play) is 67, so if I wanted, I could easily have a third, and I’m leveling a rogue who’s in her mid 40’s, and I have a paladin who’s level 26.

I got to the 70 game pretty late. I’ve head enough time with Tasmyn that I’ve gotten some nice Kara tanking gear, and a piece of two of badge gear, nothing more. Sidara hasn’t stepped foot in a raid, has no badge gear–she’s been PvPing quite a bit. It’s late enough in BC time that I’m not going to worry about raiding–if I can run Kara every now and again, maybe get into ZA, fine, but I’m not going to push it–WotLK is coming too soon. But I’ve been thinking a lot about the future and exactly what I want to do when LK is released.

Being The Altoholic, I naturally have to create a death knight eventually. I’m not going to buy WotLK and never, ever create one. I’m all about seeing every zone, playing every class… in short, experiencing as much of this fantastic game as possible. When they were first announced, I wasn’t really excited about DK’s, and I’m not sure why. Just something about the way they were described, plus the idea of being one among a million other death knights created at the same time. Then, when some of their spells started being leaked (more here), I got pretty excited. I figured I’d get one of my mains to 80, let the DK hubub settle down, let most of the early adoptors abandon theirs, and create one of my own. Then, I saw some gameplay videos from the beta. The gameplay looks exactly like Blizzard described: epic. (I imagine the damage will be toned down during the beta, but the style still looks exciting and fun).

So, now I’m toying with the idea of creating a DK the moment I get home with my shiny new WotLK box. There are a couple reasons I’m hesitant:

  1. There will be approximately two million three hundred seventy eight thousand nine hundred fourty-two other death knights there with me. On my server alone.
  2. They start at level 55, so unless Blizzard does some sort of early-play deal, I not only get to experience Northrend later than everyone else, but I get to experience Outland first. Again.
  3. If I don’t end up liking the way the death knight feels, I’ll feel “behind” on my 70s that I’ll end up picking back up.

Maybe I’m being too worrysome; but I missed out on all raiding in Azeroth, all raiding save Kara in Outlands, and I want to get in head-first in Northrend.

What do you think? Am I being a sheep by thinking about creating a death knight immediately, much less at all? Or should I follow what I think I’ll really enjoy–except for the crowdedness–and go for it?
